A beautiful located cottage, with everything one could need for a relaxing and very enjoyable stay. A lovely and delicious welcome package with home baked lemon cake (very nice), great wine and fresh eggs from their hen's. The bath room with the free standing bathtub was a delight and very pretty. We spent a lovely week in Dovenby Cottage. The cottage has been beautifully renovated to a very high standard and has more mod cons than you could ever wish for. The cottage is in a lovely setting and you can either get out and about or you can hide away and do nothing but enjoy the sound of tweeting birds! Justin and Phillipa, the owners, couldn't do enough for us from the point of us first enquiring to our arrival. They provided plenty of useful recommendations for both places to visit and also pubs/restaurants in the other villages nearby. I'm sure we'll be back to explore the places we didn't get a chance to see this time around! — Tim & Claire, 27 Apr 2014

All the best, Gareth & Louise.
— Gareth & Louise, 20 Apr 2014
Philippa and Justin, thank you both very much for such a wonderful stay at Dovenby. It is a beautiful cottage with excellent facilities and is located in such a pretty area. The underfloor heating kept us cosy and warm on chilly winter nights and your generous homemade lemon cake, fresh eggs, milk and fizz were delicious provisions we were most grateful for upon arrival!
Castle Combe is a stunning village and, locally, you will find an abundance of scenic walks (or drives in the torrential rain!). We particularly enjoyed exploring Chipping Sodbury, another picturesque village where you can also pick up groceries and enjoy excellent coffee in the independent café at the top. On our last day, we were fortunately able to make a reservation for lunch at The Bybrook at The Manor in Castle Combe; if you are able to go, we strongly recommend booking and going for the full three courses!
We have had many UK holidays and Dovenby is by far the nicest holiday cottage we have stayed in. We are looking forward to returning later this year! Philippa and Justin are ideal hosts who will happily recommend places to visit. Thank you again for such a relaxing break.
— A and F Bennett, 11 Jan 2014
We came the day after our wedding for a mini-moon and some quiet/calm time alone. We only left the cottage twice for food. We have enjoyed just being together somewhere so cosy and with such a beautiful bath.

Everything in the cottage is clearly good quality and the whole place is finished to such a high standard. We have both been very impressed with the whole experience and look forward to coming back and venturing more to the surrounding area. Thanks again.
— Chloe & Thomas, South Staffs, 27 Dec 2013
We had a wonderful long weekend, starting with the enquiry up until the last day Justin & Philippa were very warm and helpful giving many ideas of places to see and things to do for the kids.

The cottage is perfect in every way and makes you feel at home. We really appreciated Justin & Philippa providing a travel cot for our little one and DVD's for rainy evenings in.

The surrounding area is beautiful and well worth visiting. We loved Castle combe, Laycock and Bristol. The kids enjoyed the Bristol Aquarium. We will be visiting Longleat on the way back to London and I am sure we'll enjoy it as well. Thank you for the welcoming gifts (the cake was amazing), your hospitality and making our pre-Christmas holiday well worth the wait.
— Sandra & Nick Kirdaite, London/Lithuania, 23 Dec 2013
We came to Dovenby cottage two days after our wedding for a 'mini-moon'. It is safe to say we were both ready for some rest and relaxation after a hectic year of planning our wedding. We definitely found that here! Chris had planned the break, so it was a complete surprise for me - I can't express how impressed I was with our lovely warm welcome from Justin and the quality of the cottage - just perfect!

We spent our time making the most of all that the local area has to offer - walking to Castle Combe & having lunch at the lovely White Hart, a very relaxing day at Thermae Bath spa, taking in the views at Dyrham park and a lovely, lovely meal at the Old House at Home.

Dovenby cottage was just the perfect place to spend our first week as a married couple and we will definitely be coming back.

Perfect!!! — Jan & Stewart Goulsbra, Lincoln, 15 Nov 2013
Justin and Philippa gave us both a very warm welcome and were very helpful with travel and eatery tips. There is also a comprehensive information book in the Cottage that they have put together.

The Cottage itself was fantastic. It was fairly cold weather during our stay, but the cottage was very warm and cosy with its underfloor heating, and is a perfect get-away from City life.

The Cottage on the website looks great and it certainly lived up to our expectations. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful short break.

Finally, as many others have mentioned, the wine and cakes were very tasty - thank you very much!
